Frequently Asked Questions

STUDENTS

Current, incoming, and prospective Cornell Tech students: Please read the following questions & answers carefully. If your question is not answered below, feel free to reach out and contact us.

How can I engage with XR Collaboratory and connect with other XR people on campus?

As a Cornell Tech student, you can engage with XRC through courses, projects, and events. Some of these have specific prerequisites and requirements for participation, others are open to all students on campus.

How can I do Independent Research at XRC?

Independent Research (IR) projects for credit at XRC require technical proficiency and theoretical knowledge. Therefore, most IR projects require that students have completed both XRC courses (or are currently enrolled in second course). Enrollment in IR projects at XRC is a selective process with limited seats available each semester.

Independent research is only open to Cornell Tech students.

Cornell Tech students are welcome to contact us before semester start, and express interest in independent research.

I’m planning to enroll in one of the XRC courses. How can I prepare?

Please review the each course syllabus and prerequisites carefully. For courses that contain significant programming work in Unity and basic linear algebra, we recommend the following resources:

Programming (Unity/C#)

3D Math (linear algebra)

For other enrollment-related questions, please contact the Cornell Tech Student & Academic Affairs team.

I’m currently waitlisted for one of the XRC courses. Can you help?

All enrollment questions, including waitlisting, should be directed towards the Cornell Tech Student & Academic Affairs team.

I’m a student, but not at Cornell Tech. Are there any suitable opportunities for me?

We primarily work with graduate students at Cornell Tech. We also regularly engage with students on the Ithaca campus through collaborations with Cornell University faculty in Ithaca.

For students outside of Cornell, please see XRC opportunities, such as internships, for external opportunities. You can also follow our social media accounts (@xrcollaboratory) for updates.
